Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Liverpool lineups: Predicted starting XI, team news, injury latest as Arne Slot eyes Wirtz recall

16 hours ago 2

Liverpool will be looking for a response as Arne Slot's team take on Eintracht Frankfurt in UEFA Champions League action on October 22.

Slot has lost four successive games for the first time in his managerial career, including three in the Premier League and a 1-0 UCL loss away at Galatasaray.

The latest setback for Slot came via a 2-1 home loss to arch rivals Manchester United as Harry Maguire's late header sealed a first league win at Anfield for the Red Devils since 2016.

A trip to Germany offers Slot a chance to revive his team and the former Feyenoord boss faces a host of selection decisions in his squad.

Hosts Frankfurt are also out of form, with just one win five games overall, alongside contrasting fortunes in Europe after hammering Galatasaray 5-1 at home and then losing by the same score line at Atletico Madrid.

Frankfurt vs. Liverpool: Predicted starting XI and latest team new

Jonathan Burkardt's double secured a 2-2 weekend draw at Freiburg, but head coach Dino Toppmoller is expected to tweak his lineup.

Ansgar Knauff could come in to bolster the attack but veteran playmaker Mario Gotze is expected to start on the bench for the home team.

Frankfurt predicted starting XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Santos (GK) — Nissen, Koch, Amenda, Theate — Larsson, Chaibi — Knauff, Brown, Uzun — Burkardt.

Injured: Baum (thigh), Ngankam (hip).
Suspended: None

Slot will be forced into at least one change after Ryan Gravenberch came off against United with a twisted ankle.

Dominik Szoboszlai could be pulled back into a deeper midfield spot with Alexis Mac Allister's head injury not enough to keep him out.

Changes at full-back are expected, based on Slot's previous European tweaks, with Jeremie Frimpong and Andy Robertson in line to start.

Gravenberch's absence should see Florian Wirtz come back in - as he searches for a first goal for Liverpool - but the real conundrum for Slot is between Alexander Isak and Hugo Ektike.

Isak remains without a Liverpool goal in the Premier League or Champions League since arriving this summer, and Ekitike could be given the nod against his former club, as Slot attempts to find a solution to his disjointed attack.

Liverpool predicted starting XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Mamardashvili (GK) — Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson — Szoboszlai, Mac Allister — Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo — Ekitike.

Injured: Leoni (ACL), Alisson (thigh), Gravenberch (ankle), Endo (muscular).
Suspended: None
