Earl Thomas makes outlandish statement about Steelers legend Troy Polamalu

There's having confidence, and then there's being delusional. Former Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas saying he was better than Pittsburgh Steelers great and Hall of Famer Troy Polamalu is an example of the latter.

Thomas appeared on Josina Anderson's new show "The Exhibit" and not only said he was better than Polamalu, but also fellow Hall of Fame safety and Ravens legend Ed Reed.

"I'm better than Ed Reed," Thomas said. "I'm better than Troy Polamalu."

Thomas didn't help his case much after that. He went on to say that after seeing the "older career" of both players, he has no doubt in his mind he was better than them.

"I saw the older career of Ed Reed, the older career of Troy (Polamalu)," Thomas added. "Based on what I saw from that, I'm better than these guys."

When comparing players and trying to figure out who was better, it only makes sense to use their primes in the argument. When you do that, it's easy to see that Polamalu and Reed were both better.

Now, none of this is to say that Thomas wasn't a fantastic player, because he was. He should get into Canton after he was a seven-time Pro Bowler, a three-time first-team All-Pro and a two-time second-team All-Pro.

But Polamalu was just simply better. On top of all the clutch plays the Steelers great had during his illustrious, Hall of Fame career, Polamalu was an eight-time Pro Bowler, a four-time first-team All-Pro, a two-time second-team All-Pro and he won Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. Polamalu even won more Super Bowls than Thomas.

Reed was also better. He had nine Pro Bowls, five first-team All-Pros, three second-team All-Pros, and won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2004.

Sorry, Earl, but you're wrong on both accounts. Reed and Polamalu were just on a different level than you, plain and simple.
