The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired another backup quarterback in a trade with the Carolina Panthers and it could very well have a domino effect.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles acquired quarterback Andy Dalton from the Panthers in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round pick.
In the wake of that trade, the overwhelming belief is that the Eagles could turn around and trade fellow backup Tanner McKee.
"Andy Dalton, 38, is entering Year 16 in the NFL. He's under contract for $3.9M next season... And this obviously puts the Eagles in a position to trade Tanner McKee, if there's an offer they like," The Athletic's Zach Berman wrote.
McKee has served as a backup for the Eagles for the past two seasons after being drafted in the sixth-round of the 2023 NFL draft.
While McKee has had limited opportunities, he has shown enough in the preseason and regular season in that span to garner interest from some teams around the NFL, ESPN's Tim McManus wrote on Wednesday.
Four teams that could have their eye on McKee are the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals.
In Green Bay, the Packers need more competition in their quarterbacks room after the departure of Malik Willis in free agency, which leaves the team with lackluster backup options for Jordan Love that include Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord.
In Minnesota, the Vikings are set to have a competition between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy for the starting job, but the expectation is Murray will win out after how bad McCarthy was in 2025.
If so, Minnesota could move McCarthy in a trade, which would put them in the market for a backup quarterback.
The Jets traded for Geno Smith to be their starter, but they only have Brady Cook behind him after shipping Justin Fields off to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Not only could New York use more competition for the backup job, but it wouldn't hurt for the them to add another young signal-caller who could potentially be a long-term solution.
The only move the Cardinals have made at quarterback this offseason is the signing of Gardner Minshew, who is set to back up Jacoby Brissett.
That situation leaves the rebuilding Cardinals without any semblance of hope for the future under center, so they could be interested in adding a young quarterback like McKee to give them that.
