The Philadelphia Eagles traded for a quarterback on Wednesday, acquiring Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round pick.
Dalton will likely serve as Philadelphia's No. 2 quarterback behind Jalen Hurts, which has raised questions about Tanner McKee's future and if the Eagles would be willing to trade the young signal-caller. However, that doesn't seem to be the case.
Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports that the Eagles adding Dalton doesn't mean they'll trade McKee. There have been no steps taken that signal Philadelphia will deal the Stanford product.
"Checked in with those familiar with Tanner McKee and any emerging trade market. I would not take today’s Andy Dalton trade as an immediate step in that direction," Kubena said.
McKee has started 2 games since entering the league in 2023 and has looked solid when on the field, so there could be interest from teams around the league who need a backup.
But as of right now, it sounds like the Eagles plan to keep the 25-year-old on the roster, which doesn't bode well for the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams, New York Jets, and Minnesota Vikings.
All five teams could be in the market for quarterback depth, especially Green Bay and Los Angeles, whose 2025 backups are no longer on their rosters. Malik Willis departed the Packers for a three-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, while Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the free agency market for the Rams.
Detroit, New York, and Minnesota could be comfortable with their depth at quarterback, but at the same time, McKee would be an intriguing addition for all three squads.
