Eagles' offensive success will need Jalen Hurts to get out of his comfort zone

The Philadelphia Eagles offense has, once again, changed offensive coordinators. Jalen Hurts has a new OC, this time Sean Mannion, who comes from the Green Bay Packers.

Mannion's offense is very different from the Eagles' previous offensive schemes. Things will change compared to before, and it's going to be a lot more pressure on Jalen Hurts' plate.

As ESPN's Bill Barnwell highlighted, Hurts is going to have to play well outside of his comfort zone, as he'll be tasked with making more throws from under center in each game than he's made during his entire NFL career so far.

With the Eagles set to use under-center play calls, Hurts will need to get familiar with it quickly. Unfortunately, as Barnwell writes, "... Hurts has three under-center dropback completions in his entire pro career so far."

This is a massive change for the Eagles' franchise quarterback heading into his seventh season in the NFL. It's the kind of change that could result in some poor performances from Hurts.

However, if he were able to figure things out from under center, the running game should thrive, and the offense could become a lot more dangerous.

It's been a big topic all offseason, with how Hurts will look in this new offense under Mannion. But, considering how he's only completed three passes from under-center snaps in his career, according to Barnwell, Eagles fans should have some concerns.

While Hurts is one of the best quarterbacks in Eagles' franchise history, this change is a significant one, and it could throw him off his game enough that he takes a step back offensively in 2026.

He doesn't need to be elite at under-center play calls; all he needs to do is just not be terrible. That's especially the case early in the season, when he'll just start getting used to running the offense out of under-center formations.

Mannion's offense is going to force Hurts out of his comfort zone, and how well he adjusts could decide how far the Eagles go during the 2026 season.
