Eagles named ‘interesting trade target’ for $10.8 million star in potential buy-low move

The Atlanta Falcons currently have an expensive issue on their roster, and we’re not talking about $180 million backup quarterback Kirk Cousins.

ESPN’s Andy Schatz recently urged the Falcons to trade tight end Kyle Pitts, their star pass-catching prospect who has struggled to live up to his status as a former No. 4 overall draft pick.

Could Howie Roseman and the reigning Super Bowl champions swoop in and take Pitts off Atlanta’s books?

Schatz called the Philadelphia Eagles “an interesting trade target” for the former Florida Gators superstar, and he may have a point.

The Eagles have ample 2025 salary cap space — currently sitting around $30.7 million, per Over the Cap — and a massive stash of 2026 draft capital. Philly’s future at the position is also unsettled, with starter Dallas Goedert entering a contract year after agreeing to a restructured deal to avoid being traded himself.

The problem here, though, boils down to the money. While Goedert took a pay cut to stay with Philly this offseason, his entire $10 million salary for 2025 is now fully guaranteed. Pitts, meanwhile, is scheduled to make a guaranteed $10.8 million this season on his fifth-year option. The Eagles could certainly absorb that number, but writing a $10.8 million check for a potential one-year rental makes zero sense for Philadelphia.

Pitts has undeniable upside as a skill position weapon, but Goedert is a known commodity in Nick Sirianni’s offense, and Philly signed Kylen Granson and Harrison Bryant this offseason, adding to a room that also features No. 2 tight end Grant Calcaterra.

Fans have been waiting for Philly to make a slash move. If it happens, it will most likely come on on defense at bigger positions of need like EDGE rusher, cornerback or safety.
