Eagles might have Jalen Hurts concern amid 3-INT practice vs. Patriots

The Philadelphia Eagles are playing their second preseason game up in Foxborough against the New England Patriots. While the majority of the starters won't go, they are getting a chance to face the Patriots this week during joint practices.

DeVonta Smith didn't participate in team drills, and A.J. Brown is now with the Patriots. So, things are a bit different for Hurts this year than in many years prior. But that doesn't mean his performance wasn't concerning.

Eliot Shorr-Parks of WIP shared the overall statistics for Hurts against the Patriots defense on Wednesday, and they weren't pretty. Amid a three-interception day, it would be fair to have some concerns about Hurts, right? Well, there's a bit more nuance to his 3-INT performance.

Jalen Hurts has 3-INT performance vs. Patriots at practice

Shorr-Parks shared that Hurts went 19-for-27 during practice with no touchdowns and three interceptions, handing out a C- grade for the veteran QB.

But what about the three interceptions? Are those horrible passes, or did Hurts get a bit unlucky? Well, as Shorr-Parks noted, it was a bit of a mixed bag.

"The first was a pass that Hurts threw right to Wicks but it bounced off his hands and the Patriots defender got to hit before it hit the ground," Shorr-Parks writes. "The second was a short, quick pass to Covey but there must have been a miscommunication, as the ball went right to a Patriots defender, who ran it back for a pick-six."

On the interception, thrown Dontayvion Wicks' way, wasn't exactly Hurts' fault. The other to Britain Covey might have been on Hurts, but the uncertainty there leaves it a bit ambiguous. But what about the other pick?

"The third interception was on Hurts it seemed," Shorr-Parks writes. "The pass was it seemed on a crossing route over the middle of the field but it sailed on Hurts and was picked off."

Considering Sean Mannion's offense is likely to require Hurts to pass over the middle of the field more often than not, this interception is clearly the most worrying of the three.

One wasn't Hurts' fault, another one is a bit of a toss-up for who to blame, and the third is on Hurts. Unfortunately, that third INT was on a pass he's going to need to hit this season.

But even though this three-interception day might be a bit concerning, it's important to remember one thing: this was practice. This wasn't a game, and there's still time for Hurts to get things right for the season.

If there were ever a time to mess up, it would be out at practice with Smith and Makai Lemon both out due to hamstring injuries before the season even begins.

Eagles fans should not panic, nor have actual concerns about this three-interception period during joint practice with the Patriots. It's obviously not ideal, but it's hardly the end of the world.
