Eagles injury updates on Jalen Hurts, Quinyon Mitchell for NFC Championship Game

The Philadelphia Eagles emerged from last week’s cinematic playoff win over the Los Angeles Rams with a pair of injury concerns to players they can ill-afford to lose.

On defense, superstar cornerback Quinyon Mitchell was forced to exit after Philly’s first defensive drive. He injured his shoulder while stepping up to make a tackle, and never returned despite the Rams picking on veteran replacement Isaiah Rodgers throughout the game.

On offense, quarterback Jalen Hurts injured his knee while getting tackled awkwardly on a sack during the third quarter. He never missed a snap, but he was clearly hobbled for the rest of the game and somewhat cryptic about the injury afterwards.

Both players are paramount to the Eagles chances of winning the Super Bowl, and head coach Nick Sirianni provided some good news on both players during his media availability on Wednesday.

The Eagles plan to hold a walk-through on Wednesday, so their first practice report will be an estimation. With that said, Sirianni said he expected both Hurts and Mitchell to participate, which should ease any concerns about their availability for Sunday’s NFC Championship against the Washington Commanders at the Linc (3 p.m. EST,  FOX).

The importance of Hurts goes without saying, but the Eagles are going to need Mitchell to combat Jayden Daniels and Washington’s elite passing attack. Mitchell has already silenced star wide receiver Terry McLaurin once this season —  limiting him to one catch in Week 11 — and it could be a long night if the Commanders get McLaurin matched up against Rodgers or Kelee Ringo on Sunday.

The Eagles will release their first injury report on Wednesday evening. Both Hurts and Mitchell and Hurts will likely be listed as limited, but that’s still a great sign for their status.
