Eagles escape Lions after controversial pass interference call: ‘Absolutely terrible’

2 hours ago 4

The Eagles escaped with another tight win Sunday night, but not without some help from the refs.

With the Lions down by seven with less than two minutes left in the fourth, Detroit cornerback Rock Ya-Sin was called for a controversial defensive pass interference call as he defended Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown during a Jalen Hurts incompletion on a third-and-8 play from the Philly 37-yard line.

Ya-Sin did not appear to prevent Brown from making an attempt to catch the ball, and without a penalty, the Eagles would’ve been forced to punt, giving Detroit a chance to tie the game with one timeout remaining at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday night.

Instead, the Eagles picked up a fresh set of downs at their 45-yard line and were able to run out the clock in a 16-9 victory at home.

“Oh, come on. Come on. That is terrible,” NBC game analyst Cris Collinsworth said on the “Sunday Night Football” broadcast as a replay of the play was shown. “That is an absolutely terrible call that is going to decide this football game.”

While the Lions’ offense struggled immensely throughout the game and head coach Dan Campbell made some questionable play calls, they likely should have had another chance at the end of the game.

But they had to fly home lamenting the missed call and dealing with their second loss in three games since the bye week. At 6-4, they fell to third place in the NFC North and are a half-game out of a wild-card spot.

Jared Goff was just 14-for-37 with 255 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Detroit’s potent running game was limited to 74 yards.

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of Brown’s public frustration with the Eagles offense, they weren’t much better than they were Monday in Green Bay, when they scored 10 points.
