With the NFL offseason coming to a close, players are back in the swing of things, reporting to camp, partaking in drills, and so on. Given that they're coming off several months of rest and relaxation, some players are coming back a bit differently than when they left initially following the conclusion of their respective campaigns.
These changes can come in the form of added muscle, a fresh sleeve of tattoos, or shaving some pounds off of their frame, with the latter being the case for a pivotal part of the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive line: that being Jalen Carter.
When Carter was drafted by Philadelphia back in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, he was listed at 314 pounds following the combine, but it appears that he's shaved some of that off in recent months.

— NBC Sports Philadelphia (@NBCSPhilly) August 11, 2026At the Eagles training camp on Tuesday afternoon, the 25-year-old talked about how he took some weight off of his frame, which was a goal for him set by the team's defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, with the loss being close to ten pounds.
"My biggest focus was putting a smile on Coach Vic's face, coming in at my weight, and he was happy and we dapped up, we hugged it out, you know..." stated Carter. "Lighter? Probably like ten pounds, not too much, but it's a difference where I can feel it."
Shaving off that much weight isn't the easiest thing to do, but the Eagles' defensive star talked about his secret for doing so, which required him to cut back on his intake of fruit juice, that of the Minute Maid variety, as well as smaller portions during his eating window, with reduced daily meal amounts playing a role too.
"Mostly eating... but I like juice, so I might drink some juice but I had to slow down on the juice..." explained Carter. "Most of it was all water and juice in here, but I just slowed down on most of the main things and eating like once a day, maybe twice, but making it smaller portions, not big daddy meals, you know?"
All of this weight loss has the makings to improve on Carter's game, which dipped a tad bit last season, following his roles in the Eagles' Super Bowl win. The former first-round pick feels that it should help him with his on-field energy and maintain that over the course of the four quarters.
"Being less tired throughout the plays and learning how to save my energy on some plays to help throughout the game," stated the 25-year-old.
