Coming into the 2026 NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles had some hope as a potential Super Bowl contender. But after seven weeks, this team is much closer to landing the No. 1 overall pick than they are to making the playoffs.

While the offense has a ton of issues when it comes to injuries and key players missing the rest of the year, like Jalen Hurts and Lane Johnson, the defense has, for the most part, been healthy and playing in full. However, the defense for Vic Fangio has been terrible.

Sheil Kapadia of The Ringer shared a few brutal statistics that show just how terrible this defense has been in 2026. Unfortunately, this defense might be one of the worst in Eagles history, despite the talent throughout the team.

These insane stats prove Eagles' defense has been horrible in 2026

"The Eagles have been out-gained by 745 yards this season," Kapadia shared. "That's their worst yardage differential through 7 weeks this century. It's over 300 yards worse than any other Eagles team since 2000."

This is a statistic that does include the offense's involvement, but considering how good this defense should've been, it's an indictment of how many yards this Eagles defense is allowing this season.

Through seven games, the Eagles are allowing 371.3 yards per game, sixth-worst in the NFL. Combined with their offense averaging just 264.9 yards per game, it's been a recipe for disaster for the Eagles this season.

While that's a brutal stat for the defense, there's a different stat Kapadia shared from this Week 7 blowout loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys that really sells just how terrible this defense has been.

"Eagles deliver the 8th-worst performance by any defense in a game this season (EPA/Drive). 4 TDs and 3 FGs on 9 possessions. Zero turnovers. Zero sacks. Zero QB hits," Kapadia shared. "And they were only missing 2 starters: Nolan Smith and Michael Carter."

The Eagles' defense just played one of the worst games of their franchise history on the defensive side of the ball, and that was despite their defense being, for the most part, healthy.

Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, Jalyx Hunt, Zack Baun, Jonathan Greenard, Jihaad Campbell, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Riq Woolen, and Andrew Makuba were all healthy in this one.

This defense should've been a lot better than they were in this one, even facing a tough Cowboys offense, as their defense was close to fully healthy.

But the defense really struggled, failing to get much of anything positive going. While the offense's struggles aren't helping, the defense has been exceptionally terrible this season.

There's plenty of blame to go around for how poorly things are going this season, but the struggles from the defense are a huge reason why the Eagles have lost five straight games and look like one of the worst teams in the NFL.

The defense might get even worse as well, with Baun, Woolen, Ojomo, and Smith potential trade candidates this year. With how bad things are going, Howie Roseman might be a major seller, and it would be the right decision.
