Eagles could cut ties with $57 million veteran in blockbuster trade with Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have had a Hall of Fame tight end for the past 12 seasons, but they're not sure how much longer he'll be around.

Travis Kelce supporters back him as the greatest tight end in NFL history, and they certainly have a legitimate case to make. He's got three Super Bowl rings, 10 Pro Bowls, and ranks third all-time in tight end receiving yards.

However, the 35-year-old is nearing the end of his run, and he was a diminished version of his usual self in 2024, producing the fewest receiving yards in any season of his career, excluding his one-game rookie debut in 2013.

Though Kelce decided to return for the 2025 season, the Chiefs certainly need to be on the lookout for potential succession plans. One option could be to replace Kelce with the starting tight end from the team that just beat Kansas City in the Super Bowl.

In a recent article, Pro Football Network suggested that the Chiefs could be a fit for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, who is entering the final season of his four-year, $57 million contract extension.

"(The Eagles will have) some difficult decisions about which players are worth continuing to mortgage the cap for. Dallas Goedert is at the head of that list, as the tight end is entering the last year of his contract," the site wrote.

"For a wild card, could the Chiefs be a good match for Goedert? Travis Kelce is nearing the end of his career, and no team utilized more multi-tight end sets than the Chiefs in 2024."

Goedert, 30, has never been anywhere near Kelce on the league leaderboards. However, he's a steady contributor in both the regular season and playoffs, putting up 711 receiving yards combined in 14 games during the Eagles' championship season.

Though no move is imminent, the Chiefs are a team to keep an eye on if Philadelphia does decide to deal Goedert and clear some cap space.
