At this point in the 2026 season, an objective view of the Eagles would say they do not have much to get excited about.

With a 2-6 record entering Week 9, all six losses of which have come on an active streak, and quarterback Jalen Hurts among the notable injuries and subtractions since Week 1, Philadelphia is more likely to get a top-5 pick next spring than make the playoffs.

But on Sunday against the Giants, the Eagles found some excitement in an unexpected place: their punter.

Here's how Eagles punter Braden Mann made some noise with a historic punt against New York.

Braden Mann boots 86-yard punt vs. Giants

Toward the end of the first half, the Eagles were pinned deep in their own territory on a 4th & 4, leaving Mann just inside his own end zone to launch a punt to the Giants. Even with bad field position, the punter made the most of the situation.

Mann put his all into a punt that already landed around the opposing 25-yard line, then bounced all the way to the 5-yard line.

It was an 86-yard punt altogether.

Mann's punt was:

  • The longest in the NFL since 2001
  • The second-longest in the NFL since 2000
  • The second-longest in Eagles history

Rodney Williams had a 90-yard punt for the Giants in 2001, which is tied for the fourth-longest in NFL history. That's the last time an NFL punter hit the 86-yard mark; the longest punt in NFL history is 98 yards from Steve O'Neal in 1969.

The longest punt in Eagles history is also quite special: it belongs to former star quarterback Randall Cunningham, who famously booted a 91-yard punt in 1989 against the Giants after convincing  head coach Buddy Ryan to let him punt after he was an all-conference punter in college.

Longest punts in Eagles history: 1. Randall Cunningham in 1989: 91 yards 2. Braden Mann today: 86 yards 3. Joe Muha in 1948: 82 yards 4t. Randall Cunningham in 1994: 80 yards 4t. King Hill in 1962: 80 yards 6. Jeff Feagles in 1991: 77 yards

Cunningham's punt remains the third-longest in NFL history.
