An Arizona Cardinals defender has reportedly demanded a trade and the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles are interested.
According to Easton Butler of Packer Report, Cardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat has asked to be traded, and both the Eagles and Packers are eyeing him.
"Cardinals EDGE Josh Sweat has requested a trade this week, per a source. The Packers and Eagles are both reportedly interested in him," Butler reported.
Butler goes on to add that Sweat's discontent stems from the Cardinals firing now-former head coach Jonathan Gannon, who Sweat followed from Philly to Arizona.
If Sweat hits the trade block, he's going to draw plenty of interest.
Not only does the eight-year veteran play a premium position, but he is also coming off a season in which he tallied 12 sacks, which was his second double-digit sack campaign.
Sweat is going into the second year of his $76 million contract. Salary cap analyst Ken Ingalls notes that the acquiring team would take on a $12.7 million cap hit in 2026.
It's not hard to see why the Packers and Eagles have interest.
The Eagles are obviously familiar with Sweat, who played the first seven seasons of his career in Philly and was very productive. Philly is reeling along the edge after Jaelan Phillips departed in free agency to the Carolina Panthers.
In Green Bay, the Packers aren't looking too hot along the edge after trading Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys. Making their situation more precarious, there's no guarantee Micah Parsons will be ready for the start of the season.
It's conceivable, if not likely, that the Cardinals could get a Day 2 pick for Sweat.
Both the Packers and Eagles are armed with second- and third-round picks this year, so they have the ammunition to pull off such a trade.
Philly has two third-rounders, one from the New York Jets and another via compensatory selection.
