When people speak about the San Antonio Spurs' promising future, most of the talking points are centered on Victor Wembanyama. That is a valid claim to make, but the Spurs are much more than just their gigantic center because they have more young players who have immense potential.
Over the past few years, they have continued to stack young talent. Now, they have three players who can be considered potential superstars, and those are Wembanyama, Dylan Harper, and Stephon Castle. While most people are focused on Wembanyama, the backcourt is developing into one of the best in the league.
Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle believe they are the league's best guards
After the Spurs just had a promising run to the NBA Finals in 2026, eyes are now on them to bounce back. They might be young, but they have targets on their backs now because they became the best team in the Western Conference, even usurping the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Unfortunately for the Spurs, they lost in the Finals to the New York Knicks. Despite losing in only five games, they have announced themselves as contenders for years to come on the back of their young core.

It takes a lot of mental strength and confidence to bounce back from that kind of loss. Thankfully, these young Spurs are not short on confidence. In fact, Harper and Castle believe that they are two of the league's best guards ahead of their second and third seasons in the NBA, respectively.
"The biggest thing is that we both think we’re the best guards in the NBA, plus Fox. The relationship kinda in the beginning came from that competitive mindset, and it grew off the court. We could talk about anything, literally, so I mean it’s a great relationship to have," Harper said about his relationship with Castle ahead of their second year playing together.
With this kind of dynamic, it is easy to see why they love playing alongside each other. Thankfully for the Spurs, they will have these two guards for years to come. They will do their best to retain this duo and Wembanyama because they seem to love playing together.
