Dylan Cease makes Blue Jays history with 99 mph feat that's hard to believe

The Toronto Blue Jays might not be off to the start they were hoping for, both record and injury-wise. But there is one addition that's worked out great so far.

Dylan Cease has a 2.10 ERA through the first five starts of his Blue Jays career, as he's been a solid starter for Toronto despite the team's struggles so far this year.

But, as Sportsnet Stats shared on Twitter/x, the new Blue Jays starter has made some franchise history over the last 16 years that's hard to believe. Somehow, Cease has thrown more 99+ mph pitches than all Blue Jays starters combined in the last 16 years.

This is a ridiculous statistic. Over the last 16 years, for the Blue Jays since 2010, Toronto has seen its starting pitchers throw 26 pitches of at least 99 mph.

And now with this Cease signing, Blue Jays fans have now seen that number double. The Toronto starting pitchers of the last decade and a half haven't thrown as hard as Cease has in just five starts.

While 99 mph pitches are very fast, and not every starter can reach those numbers consistently, it's still a surprise that Cease has surpassed the last 16 years of Blue Jays starting pitching in just five starts.

Cease is averaging 5.6 pitches of 99+ mph per game with the Blue Jays so far. The previous 16 years saw Blue Jays pitchers throw roughly one 99+ mph pitch every 100 games.

That's a ridiculous comparison for the Blue Jays' starting pitching. Cease has been a revelation for the Blue Jays, not just on the mound, but on the radar gun as well.
