Dwyane Wade's Met Gala Job? “Get Out the Way” for Gabrielle Union

Christian Siriano Reveals How He Navigates Last-Minute Met Gala Requests

Gabrielle Union was certainly ready to bring it on at the 2026 Met Gala.

In fact, the Cheaper by the Dozen actress instantly changed the atmosphere when she and husband Dwyane Wade took to the steps at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art for the May 4 Costume Institute benefit. And the NBA legend had a specific idea about his role for the night.

“It's my job to never be in a way,” Dwyane exclusively told Zuri Hall during Live From E!: Met Gala 2026. “She's the star.”

“She's the north star when it comes to this carpet thing,” he added. “So it's my job just to compliment and get out the way.”

And Gabrielle was certainly shining for the night’s “Fashion Is Art” dress code, donning a brown, sheer Michael Kors gown, which she told E! featured 170,000 crystals and took “500 man hours” to complete.

The 53-year-old finished off her outfit with a diamond Tiffany & Co. necklace for the “Costume Art”-themed gala, which was co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman,  Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. (See all the celebrities at the Met Gala here.)

As for Dwyane, the 44-year-old—who shares 7-year-old daughter Kaavia Wade with Gabrielle—opted for his own fashionable look, wearing black pants and a black, sheer shirt paired with a tuxedo-style vest and Tiffany & Co. jewels.

But this was hardly the first time the couple—who wed in 2014—have shined at the Met Gala.

In fact, daughter Zaya Wade—who Dwyane shares with ex-wife Siovaughn Funches—was obsessed with the duo’s looks at the 2025 Met Gala as they leaned into that year’s "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" theme.

"Alright, show up and show out!" Zaya excitedly shouted in an Instagram Story at the time while watching her parents strut along the Met steps. "This is what we wanna see."

The 18-year-old was also thrilled when Dwyane—who wore a custom Prada white satin tailcoat, embellished vest and black pants—got his own moment on the carpet, saying, "OK, Dad, OK, get a solo."

"Oh, this is so cute," Zaya continued. "Oh, he feeling himself."

And she was just as amazed by Gabrielle’s own custom black Prada gown and embroidered white train, which the actress completed with a statement Tiffany & Co necklace.

"Look at her necklace, it's so pretty," Zaya raved. "Oh, this is gorgeous. This is what I want for my parents."

"I approve, I approve, I approve," she added. "They're representing for me."
