In Duke’s most recent game, Cooper Flagg stole the spotlight with a remarkable 42-point performance, setting both a Duke and ACC record. His scoring outburst captivated the basketball world, highlighting not only his exceptional talent but also the strides he has made in his game. Flagg was involved in 18 of Duke's 24 baskets, either scoring or assisting.

However, the game wasn’t without its setbacks for Duke. In the first half, Syracuse transfer Maliq Brown suffered a knee injury after his teammate, Mason Gillis, collided with him while scoring a basket. Brown, who has seen reduced minutes this season due to Duke's deep roster, has been an integral defensive presence for the Blue Devils.

Though Brown isn’t a major offensive contributor, the 6-foot-9 forward from Culpeper, Virginia, has been a force on defense. His ability to guard in the post and contest shots at the rim has made him one of Duke's most valuable defensive assets. While his contributions don’t always show up on the stat sheet, Brown’s impact is felt on the court, especially on the defensive end.

Earlier today, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer announced that Brown will miss a significant portion of the season due to a sprained knee.

“He’ll miss weeks,” Scheyer said in a statement on Monday morning.

This injury is a tough blow for Duke, as Brown has been a key factor in the team’s defensive success this season. Flagg shared his thoughts on Brown’s absence following the game:

“Just the presence he brings defensively, I’ve never seen somebody with such a knack for getting his hands on the ball,” Flagg said.

With Brown sidelined, Duke will now look for others to step up and fill the void on defense. The Blue Devils are expected to lean more on Gillis, who will take on an increased role moving forward.
