The Duke Blue Devils have one of their biggest days of the year on Saturday. It's a men's basketball matchup at North Carolina, one of the best rivalries in sports.
It's not normally a day with any good vibes between the teams. Duke and UNC really, really don't like each other.
Except on Saturday in the pregame festivities, Duke legend Jay Williams was part of a panel on ESPN and did the unthinkable.
He started a Tar Heels chant for the UNC fans in attendance.
"It's just for one second to see how it feels, because I never usually do this," Williams said.
Jay Bilas, another Blue Devils great, replied, "What a suck up."

— Zion O. (@DukeNBA) February 7, 2026Even just for the crowd engagement, this seems like the absolutely wrong move for Williams.
This isn't just some mediocre matchup. This is Duke-Carolina.
Williams won a national championship for Duke and earned national player of the year honors. He's one of the best to ever wear the Blue Devils uniform.
It sure seems like there aren't a ton of former Duke basketball players who would take this approach, even for a bit of fun or a bit of a joke.
The college basketball world will wait to see which team this serves as a good omen for in Saturday night's latest edition of the rivalry clash.
