Drew Barrymore can always count on her “cinematic soulmate” Adam Sandler to make her feel safe.

The actress opened up on this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show about balancing motherhood and her Hollywood career.

“You give birth and you move into this town called Guilt City. And you erect a house and you live there permanently,” Barrymore said.

Barrymore, who has starred in three movies with Sandler over the past 26 years, revealed how he made her feel comfortable enough to get back into acting after she gave birth to her first daughter, Olive, in 2012.

“I went and worked with Adam Sandler and that felt safe because I knew he had two daughters,” she said. “And he was someone I trusted with everything that I know and I just thought, ‘I’ll be adjacent to people who I know work and have kids and that will make me feel safer.'”

The talk show host was referring to their 2014 rom-com Blended, which was filmed in South Africa in 2013. The following year, Barrymore gave birth to her second daughter, Frankie.

Barrymore and Sandler, who also co-starred in The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates, have remained close friends over the years. Barrymore even said she recently walked in on their daughters watching 50 First Dates together.

“My daughter and Adam’s daughter were watching it at my house the other night. I was like, ‘Why are you guys watching this? Don’t you get enough of me and your dad?’” Barrymore said on the Nov. 4 episode of her daytime talk show. “And they were just so happy. I was like, ‘Oh, but this is so sweet and wonderful.’”

The star said it felt “comforting” to see their kids bonding over their iconic movie, before adding, “Your kids will, a lot of the time, reject so many things about you that when you see them embracing something, you’re like, ‘Oh, how fantastic.’”
