Draymond Green sends strong message on Mavs’ Summer League decision for Duke Blue Devils basketball's Cooper Flagg

Draymond Green doesn’t appreciate the fact that rookies don’t get called out for being shut down during the NBA Summer League like veterans do for taking games off during the regular season. The comments come after the Dallas Mavericks prematurely ended Duke Blue Devils basketball great Cooper Flagg’s Summer League run.

Green took to the seldom-used Threads app to make his call-out.

“I find it very interesting that players get bashed for 'load management' but rookies get shut down during summer league these days ... fascinating huh,” Green wrote.

There’s a reason Green took to the Threads app and didn’t risk being ratioed into oblivion on Twitter.

Comparing games that count towards someone getting extra contract bonuses and could determine a team’s postseason future to exhibitions on a neutral court with players who may or may not even be your teammate is absurd on many levels.

Green knew what he was doing. Stirring the pot with a rookie who has a massive fan following is a genius play to dominate the news cycle. With NBA free agency at a lull, and his Golden State Warriors in a weeks-long free agency drought, Green reminded everyone why he’s one of the league’s premier villains.

The Warriors have Jonathan Kuminga’s free agency situation to sort through. Kuminga wants a sign-and-trade to the Chicago Bulls, but Golden State may not be willing to meet that demand.

Until they figure that out, it looks like Green wants to antagonize the league’s new golden child.
