Draymond Green fumes over being labeled ‘angry black man’ after latest technical, alleged racial slur

Draymond Green lashed out Thursday night against what he believes to be a portrayal of him as an “angry black man” following the 117-93 Game 2 loss to the Timberwolves.

Green received his fifth technical foul of the postseason during the game, but also had an alleged racial slur directed at him that resulted in a fan’s ejection, Warriors security told ESPN.

“Looked like the angry black man. I’m not an angry black man,” Green said. “I’m a very successful, educated black man with a great family, and I’m great at basketball and great at what I do.

“The agenda to keep trying to make me look like an angry black man is crazy. I’m sick of it. It’s ridiculous.”

Green made just the brief statement after the game and did not provide details on why he believes there is an agenda against him, but it’s clear emotions were high after he found himself on the wrong end of a technical foul with 8:46 remaining in the second quarter.

The controversial Golden state star hit Naz Reid in the head with his left elbow/forearm while the Minnesota wing reached around and committed a foul with the Timberwolves ahead, 33-17.

Green later left a team huddle and yelled at a referee, seemingly saying “you know that’s bulls–t” before being calmed down by sidelined Warriors star Steph Curry.

The veteran big man is now either two technical or flagrant fouls away from a suspension.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr removed Green from the game after the technical to allow him time to cool down.

“I could see he had gotten pretty upset and I just didn’t want him to get another technical, so I took him out at that point,” Kerr said. “I know he’s going to have to be careful now.

“He’s going to have to stay composed. Obviously we need him, and I’m confident that he will because he knows the circumstances.”

Green, though, did not express any displeasure with his star’s reaction.

“That’s part of Draymond,” Kerr said. “The same thing that makes him such a competitor and winner puts him over the top sometimes. We know that and it’s our job to help him stay composed, stay poised but the competition is so meaningful to them that occasionally he goes over the line.”

Warriors star Jimmy Butler said he’s not concerned that Green will put himself in position to earn a suspension during the remainder of the Warriors’ run.

“No, I think he knows,” Butler said, according to ESPN. “We all know. I thought he got fouled and was maybe trying to sell the call. Someone got hit, but it’s crazy. Every time he does something, it’s always a review and always ends up being something of that nature.”

He added: “He knows how much we need him now more than ever. So, I don’t think he gets to seven (technical fouls).”

Green’s night also included the fan allegedly making a vile remark during the fourth quarter, per ESPN.

A video has circulated showing Green on a stationary bike yelling back and forth with an unseen fan, with Green riding a bike and repeatedly saying “soft.”

It’s far from the first time Green has found himself in the spotlight for his actions in recent weeks. He received a Flagrant 1 could in Game 6 against the Rockets for hitting Jalen Green in the head on May 2 — days after needed to be separated from a heated moment with Fred VanVleet in Game 2 of the first-round series.

In March, he claimed Karl-Anthony Towns was ducking him — despite the Knicks star being away from the team for a funeral.

Over 12 NBA seasons, Green has been suspended six times for a total of 21 games and docked $942,000 for a whopping 228 fines.

The series shifts to California for Saturday’s Game 3 with the teams even at 1-1.
