Across the NBA, multiple elite players are perennial MVP candidates. Luka Doncic is among that special group, as he will always be in the running for the award, but despite having eight elite seasons under his belt, he has not come close to winning it.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar will always have fantastic regular-season campaigns, but he still gets eclipsed by some of his peers, including Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who have a combined five MVPs to their name.
Draymond Green does not like Luka Doncic's chances of winning the MVP
Whether it is for the Lakers or the Dallas Mavericks, Doncic has not received an MVP breakthrough just yet. Of course, he has the potential to do so because he is always playing at an elite level with the numbers to back it up.
However, he might struggle to compete for the award moving forward because some players continue to stand out. While SGA and Jokic are always candidates, Victor Wembanyama has also entered the race, and is the favorite in NBA circles.

For Golden State Warriors mainstay Draymond Green, he thinks that Doncic must win the MVP award this season. Going beyond this season might be bad for Doncic because he might never win the award.
"Luka will never win MVP in the NBA. This is the last possible year he can win it. Because if Luka goes and averages 34 a game, they'll go, 'Oh yeah, of course Luka averaged 34.' It won't be viewed as somebody averaging those numbers. People get fatigued of it," Green said on an episode of his podcast alongside show guest Taylor Rooks.
It is definitely a unique situation because people have voter fatigue for Doncic, even though he has never won the award. That also speaks for the extremely high standard Doncic has set for himself, which is why people are probably ignoring him when voting comes around.
Of course, Green also brings up Jayson Tatum, who he thinks is going through the same situation. They have the opportunity to shine this season, but going beyond this year, the chances of Doncic or Tatum winning are bleak.
