Doyle: Arapaho can strike gold in Newbury's Mill Reef Stakes

Dods gelding to strike gold in Mill Reef

Michael Dods has been bullish about his unbeaten gelding Arapaho Gold, who can make it five wins out of five in the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (2.12) at Newbury on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Racing.

The impressive Gimcrack winner - according to the Darlington trainer the best juvenile he's ever had - boasts by far the best form in the race and proved his liking for this course and distance when he won the Listed Rose Bowl earlier in the season.

Godolphin's Nabati looked most progressive until coming unstuck in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster only last week. Charlie Appleby is backing him up quickly with something to prove at this level.

Starlust to capitalise on drop in grade

I'm keeping a close eye on the revitalised Breeders' Cup winner Starlust in the Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes (1.02) at Newbury.

Ralph Beckett's sprinter, who stole the glory in Del Mar two years ago before an unsuccessful stint at stud, has run two big figures at the top level in the Nunthorpe and the Flying Five in Ireland last weekend so poses a threat to all in this lower grade.

Back on an easier track, he can get his head back in front at the possible expense of Shagraan, who can outrun his odds in the first-time cheekpieces. Clive Cox's gelding was second in this race last year and will enjoy the underfoot conditions.

Legend can bounce back to winning form

Roaring Legend proved he retains plenty of ability when going down narrowly to last weekend's Mallard winner Valedictory at Newmarket in the summer and can go one better in the Dubai Duty Free Autumn Cup Handicap (1.37) at Newbury.

Olly Murphy's eight-year-old is a fresh horse - a comment that applies to Alan King's Insanity. I've always liked this gelding who is well handicapped on the pick of his more recent form.

Primo Lara has Ryan Moore up which will attract plenty of market interest but this looks much tougher than the all-weather race he won at Kempton earlier this month.

Newbury a hot date for Boyfriend

Richard Hannon holds the key to the Dubai Duty Free Handicap (2.47) at Newbury with the consistent Boyfriend and stable companion Stem.

The former was quite unlucky at Salisbury when things got quite congested but he stayed on well and might have gone closer with a clear run. Compensation way well await.

Stem produced a good run at Sandown last time and has won at Newbury before, while Jane Chapple-Hyam's Balzac posted a much-improved run at Ascot after being gelded and looks another big player.

Haggas grey has strong Gold Cup chance

Binhareer is a stakes horse in the making so I'm expecting big things from him in the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup (3.40) at Ayr on Saturday.

William Haggas' grey ran a super race in the Group Three Hackwood Stakes at Newbury in July off an unchanged rating of 103 and my husband Tom Marquand is looking forward to getting back on him in handicap company.

A course and distance winner in easy ground last year, he's on top of my shortlist along with Far Above Dream who went agonisingly close in a hot handicap at York last time. That form was franked when the third Coul Angel bolted up at the Curragh last week.

At a bigger price, I wouldn't rule out Richard Spencer's Run Boy Run, who won the race 12 months ago off a lower rating and could be dangerous in first-time blinkers if he's drawn on the right side in stall 23.

Hats off to Sam in Silver Cup

I'd love to see Sam England win the Ladbrokes Ayr Silver Cup Handicap (2.30) with the in-form Trilby who is another strong chance for Tom (Marquand).

He won well at Beverley before staying on nicely at Haydock, hitting the line really hard, and the quicker they go the better for the six-year-old who is on a nice mark despite his five-pound penalty.

Wathnan Racing's Deep Havana also shoulders a penalty but won well at Thirsk off a long lay-off and can improve on that, while Julie Camacho's Havana Blue should play a leading role after winning so impressively at Ascot.

Getting back on simulator my biggest milestone

I'm delighted to report that in the past two weeks I've really turned the corner in my recovery from the broken leg I sustained at Bath in May.

For a while I wasn't seeing the progress I was hoping for which was quite worrying - my knee and ankle just weren't working together - but I'm starting to see good results now which is very satisfying.

The biggest milestone was getting back on the simulator a few weeks ago. Initially I couldn't even get my foot up in the iron but it feels good to be taking such a big step back towards riding again.

Even from the outset I was determined not to let myself lose too much condition, hoping that I would be able to regain fitness faster once I started to increase my rehab, which has been quite exhausting.

I've been doing an hour in the gym every day at Oaksey House in Lambourn, followed by physio sessions and work in the hydro pool. I've also been back on the exercise bike which has been great for boosting my cardio.

I'm definitely ticking every box and seeing the results of my hard work so I'm hoping to be back doing what I love in a matter of weeks, rather than months.
