A former WWE Superstar has predicted the company's fate once John Cena officially retires as an active in-ring performer. Cena is set to end his farewell tour on December 13 at Saturday Night's Main Event in Washington, D.C.
There are four dates left on Cena's retirement tour, and people are starting to realize the magnitude of his imminent departure. He will still be part of the WWE family, but he's no longer performing inside the ring.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, six-time WWE Hardcore Champion Bob Holly doesn't see a bright future for the company once Cena officially hangs it up next month. He even described it as an "ugly" situation for WWE despite the increase in revenue from the third quarter of the year alone.
"Once John Cena retires, I believe things will start to get really ugly for WWE," Holly wrote.Once John Cena retires, I believe things will start to get really ugly for WWE.
To be fair to WWE, they have managed John Cena's status as a part-timer for nearly a decade now, starting around 2017. Roman Reigns has stepped up to the plate, though he's also a part-timer now.
Cody Rhodes has taken over the mantle in the past two years, but he's also starting to take on major projects outside WWE. Bob Holly, who is also a four-time tag team champion, has a point about not having the next big star ready to take the company to the next generation.
John Cena's final opponent to be determined by tournament
At Saturday Night's Main Event, John Cena revealed that his final opponent will be determined by The Last Time is Now tournament. It's set to begin this Monday on RAW in Boston, with two matches, as part of the 16-man bracket.
Sheamus is set to take on Shinsuke Nakamura, while Damian Priest will battle Rusev in the first round. The next two matches will be this Friday on SmackDown, with Jey Uso vs. The Miz and LA Knight vs. a mystery opponent.
The winner of the tournament will have the honor to face The GOAT in his final match at SNME on December 13 at the Capital One Center in Washington, D.C.
