Donovan Mitchell speaks on the dynamic he is building with new Cavs teammate James Harden

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the most talented teams in the league, even before the trade deadline. Of course, they made the biggest move of the deadline, sending Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers for James Harden.

It was a tough trade to gauge for most people, considering Garland is a decade younger than his counterpart. However, it appears that the Cavaliers want to double down on their core group with a more proven lead guard alongside Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell knows Harden can fit right in with the Cavaliers

Harden played his first game with the Cavaliers on Saturday, which was against the Kings. In 32 minutes, he was quite productive with 23 points and eight assists. It was a superb debut, as he showed why the Cavs' front office was willing to part ways with their promising point guard.

He showed palpable chemistry with his teammates, including Mitchell and Jarrett Allen, who scored 35 and 29 points, respectively. It might be against the Kings, but it is still a promising night that could continue the Cavaliers' quest to become a top team again.

The backcourt of Mitchell and Garland was superb, as they were the primary reasons behind their 64-18 record. Of course, Allen and Evan Mobley were also core pieces to their success, but offensively, it was the backcourt leading the way.

Now, Mitchell is playing with a new point guard, but it appears he is optimistic about his fit alongside the former MVP.

"When you have a guy who’s established like that, to come in and be like, ‘No, go.’ It takes that little bit of awkwardness because I’ve known him, but it’s one of those things when you’re trying to figure it out," Mitchell said after the game against the Kings.

It took a half to be like, ‘Okay.’ It’s a testament to him... Then, when it was time for the fourth quarter, you just pick and choose."

With this kind of reliability with Mitchell and Harden in the backcourt and a frontcourt of Mobley and Allen, it will be yet another superb core. It can take some time to gel, but Harden is such an adaptable player that it won't be much of an issue in the long run.
