Donovan Mitchell launches ice-cold D.O.N. 7 with a scoop of swagger

After breaking a longstanding Michael Jordan playoff record Sunday night, Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell isn’t just lighting up the court, he’s dishing out dessert.

Despite a 121-112 Game 1 playoff loss against the Indiana Pacers, there was still cause for celebration as Mitchell broke Jordan's NBA record for the most consecutive 30-point games in NBA playoff series openers — and, in partnership with Adidas, he dropped a limited supply of his latest high-performance signature basketball shoes — a la mode.

Just ahead of the game, Adidas teamed up with Mitchell’s Ice Cream to open the one-day-only “nICE Cream Shop” offering fans free scoops and the chance to take home a pair of Mitchell’s D.O.N. Issue #7 ahead of their official July 19 release date.

The Cavaliers Team Shop shared the news in a post to Instagram,  writing, “Take home a pair of the new D.O.N. Issue #7 before they officially drop … Limited pairs available – get it while it’s still chill!”

The D.O.N. Issue 7 signature shoe is the latest addition to Mitchell's sneaker line with Adidas and while many assume the acronym is based on his first name, instead, it’s short for — “Determination Over Negativity.”

According to Sneaker News, Issue 7  is the first Adidas basketball shoe to feature full-length Lightstrike Pro — designed to retain its performance and endure a substantial amount of wear and tear — and an “exposed carbon fiber plate at the mid-foot” for “security and stability.”

Sole Retriever calls the design, which features a textile base, a neoprene internal bootie, a curved grid pattern on the toe and a zipper shroud that conceals the lacing setup, “avant-garde and futuristic,” with the “Camp” colorway inspired by the Issue 6 "Camp" shoe given to athletes who attended Mitchell’s elite basketball camp. And of course, Mitchell’s Spida logo can be found on the zipper tag.

In a post to Instagram, Texas basketball and social media star Nelson Neumann said his favorite feature on them “has to be the zipper.”

Mitchell revealed the latest design in an Instagram post and fans quickly shared their enthusiasm, with one responding, “Best one yet,” and another writing, “Give me the shoes."

If you didn’t make it to the nICE Cream Store in time, the Adidas D.O.N. Issue #7 “Camp is set for official release on July 19 and will retail for $120.
