Former India cricketer Amit Mishra made a massive statement on Rohit Sharma after the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa. The Men in Blue won the three-match series 2-1 at home.

Amit Mishra opened up on Rohit Sharma's fitness transformation and reckoned that the definition of fitness has changed in the modern era. He stated that everybody's body is different and that fitness is judged more by looks and lean appearance. The former cricketer advised players to maintain a genuine body and not to be fit just for the looks.

"Everybody's body is not the same. There is a difference. The type is different. Fitness is judged more on looks these days. To look lean. It is better to have a genuine body and maintain your fitness. Eat well, work hard, you will stay fit. Take care of your diet and do things naturally. Don't be fit to just look fit. There are many examples of those who made themselves look fit in short time, I will not take names, but later they have faced many issues with their body. It is better to have good sleep, eat well, do natural things. Go the gym, it is good, but also for running go out on the ground. You need to have that mindset," he said in a podcast on MensXP's YouTube channel.

Amit Mishra represented India in all formats, having made his international debut in 2003. He picked up 74 wickets in Tests, 64 in ODIs, and 16 in T20Is. The veteran leg-spinner announced his retirement from cricket in September 2025.

Amit Mishra on Rohit Sharma's fitness

Ahead of India's ODI series against Australia, Rohit Sharma transformed himself, losing 10 kgs in weight. While the star batter was considered 'overweight' earlier, Amit Mishra reckoned that Rohit was always fit. Having played with the batter, Mishra claimed that Rohit was never slow on the field and was always active.

"Rohit Sharma has made a comeback and is fit. He was fit before as well. I have played with him. People called him heavy but I never felt that he was slow on the field or could not score runs. It was not like he would bat and go out, he would field as well and was active. Everyone have their opinion and perspective," he said.

In the three ODIs against Australia, Rohit scored 202 runs at an average of 101 with a century and a half-century. Moreover, in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa, he made 146 runs from three games at an average of 48.66 and a strike rate of 110.60 with two half-centuries.
