As one of Liverpool's most critical players over the past two seasons, the health of Dominik Szoboszlai is of paramount importance to the Reds each and every week.

He has been a warrior for the Premier League giants since joining from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for €70 million.

Unfortunately, it appears that heavy usage is beginning to take a toll, leaving Liverpool thin in midfield as they look to push forward through the 2026/27 campaign.

After exiting early in the win over Brentford in mid-October, he could be set for another spell on the sidelines with a muscle problem that appears to be popping back up.

Dominik Szoboszlai injury news, latest

In the first half of Liverpool's 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Brentford, Dominik Szoboszlai was forced off with what appeared to be another recurrence of his hamstring injury.

The Hungarian was not fully fit upon returning from the lengthy fall international break, according to Andoni Iraola, and therefore missed both the Premier League game on October 11, and the subsequent Champions League visit to Austria to meet LASK a few days later.

"He came [back to the club] with an overload," Iraola said of Szoboszlai's return from the international break. "He felt a tight hamstring. He's tried somehow, kind of pushing through training, but he was not feeling 100 per cent, and we will have to wait for Dom, yes."

He was a doubt to be ready for the league return against Brentford on October 17, but passed fit and was named to the starting lineup.

Szoboszlai made it just 32 minutes before needing to come off, signaling that he could not carry on and ultimately replaced by Trey Nyoni.

How many minutes has Dominik Szoboszlai played?

The minutes load that Dominik Szoboszlai has carried for club and country since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2023 has been immense, and there is speculation that it could be leading to a spell of injury troubles in the near future.

During the 2025/26 campaign, Szoboszlai played an astonishing 5,976 minutes for club and country, a career high for the 25-year-old. He logged 3,233 minutes in Premier League action, appearing in 36 of the 38 matches, all of which he started. Add in 360 minutes in the FA Cup, 1,053 minutes in the Champions League, 90 in the Community shield, and another 1,066 for his national team.

Since joining Liverpool, he has been used to the tune of 14,761 minutes through his first three full seasons at the club.

It's not just minutes that will cause significant injury fears, but also Szoboszlai's style of play. According to FotMob, Szoboszlai completed the third-most sprints of any player in the 2025/26 Premier League season, with 618 total sprints, to the tune of 17.2 per 90 minutes of action. He was behind only Adrien Truffert of Bournemouth and Igor Thiago of Brentford for total sprints across the whole of the season.

The load combination of heavy minutes and a high degree of sprinting could be a big drag on Szoboszlai, especially if he continues to try and work his way back from injury quickly.
