The Miami Dolphins, sitting at 0-5 entering Week 7, are going to be a seller at this year's trade deadline. Veteran players on expiring contracts will be available for trade, and there's bound to be some interest in a few of their veterans.

But not all of the obvious trade candidates on this Dolphins team might be made available for trade. One very noteworthy name that might not be on the move unlike what it might seem from the outside of a very in-demand edge rusher, Chop Robinson.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, while there's expected to be interest in Robinson this season, the Dolphins might not see him as a trade chip.

Why Chop Robinson might not be a trade candidate for Dolphins

"General manager Jon-Eric Sullivan will always answer the phone, but the Dolphins view Robinson as part of their future, rather than a trade chip," Schefter and Rapoport report.

With the Dolphins trying to collect as much young talent as possible, and trying to do so without spending too much with an NFL-record dead salary cap issue, the Dolphins might not be willing to move Robinson this season.

Robinson was a 2024 first-round pick and is only 23 years old. He still has another year under contract in 2027, and the Dolphins can use a fifth-year option on him for the 2028 season.

While teams around the NFL surely would have significant interest in such a young pass rusher with upside, and the Dolphins could probably land a strong draft pick haul for him, they might prefer to keep him on the team going forward.

If he were like some of their other veterans and set to hit the open market following the 2026 NFL season, then maybe the Dolphins would be a lot more receptive to a trade.

But they still have at least two-and-a-half years of control with Robinson, not to mention the possibility of a franchise tag for the 2029 season as well.

It seems that, at least for now, the Dolphins have no plans to trade Robinson. It's not like they have to make a decision soon, as they could trade Robinson next offseason, or at next year's trade deadline if they really want to move on from him.

For the 2026 NFL trade deadline in November, Robinson seems more likely than not to stick in Miami despite plenty of interested teams likely willing to pay quite a steep price to acquire him from Miami.
