Dolphins trade pitch acquires $84 million 2-time Pro Bowl CB as perfect Jalen Ramsey replacement

The Miami Dolphins, like several other teams across the league, are currently navigating a difficult offseason, trying to figure out how to part ways with some big-name players carrying big-time contracts. One name that has surfaced in trade talks is Jalen Ramsey, and it’s looking increasingly likely that he could be on the move—if a deal is reached.

However, negotiations have stalled because Miami is unwilling to help offset Ramsey’s hefty contract. He remains the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL—and rightfully so—but the Dolphins want to trade him without contributing to his salary.

“The Dolphins appear unwilling to take on any of Jalen Ramsey’s guaranteed money to facilitate a trade. Teams are very interested in trading for Ramsey, but don’t want to take on his full contract. This is the current hold up,” Jeremy Fowler reported.

Some expected Miami to select a cornerback in the draft to prepare for Ramsey’s potential departure, but that didn’t happen. Instead, there's a trade idea circulating that could give the Dolphins a near-perfect replacement: Green Bay Packers’ two-time Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander.

“Acquiring a two-time Pro Bowler would be a swing for the fences for the Dolphins. Alexander has been an upper echelon cornerback throughout his NFL career, although injuries kept him out of action for 10 games in each of the last two seasons,” Adam Stites wrote.

Several teams have been linked to Alexander, including the Kansas City Chiefs. Like Ramsey, Alexander carries a significant contract—$84 million over four years. Trading Ramsey would become a lot easier if Miami could land this kind of home-run acquisition.

Not only would Alexander be a strong replacement on the field, but he’d also bring valuable veteran leadership to the locker room. While it may seem like a long shot, in today’s NFL, never say never.
