Dolphins the biggest loser of scouting combine press conference

1 hour ago 3

The Miami Dolphins have made it no secret what the future could hold for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

With the franchise seemingly out on the quarterback, how they move on from him will be an interesting exercise. Cutting him will result in a huge financial loss, and who wants to trade for a player no one wants and who is on big money?

That list would be rather short.

But the Dolphins might have just done themselves a disservice when talking about the Tua situation at the scouting combine.

Because general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has just stated that all options are open.

"We've had conversations with Tua and his representation," Sullivan said via NFL.com. "Everything's on the table, including the potential of a trade. We don't know which way that's going to go.

"I think Tua believes that he can still be a high-level quarterback in this league. I think that's what his desire is to do, you know, where that happens remains to be seen, whether that's here or elsewhere."

Why Dolphins are biggest loser from combine

In my opinion, what Miami has done now is basically state that they are willing to listen to offers for Tua.

Which means they want to sell. Their bargaining power, if they had any before, is now likely gone.

They won't get market value for Tua, or even something substantial, because teams now know they want to move on if they can. If the Dolphins have a price in mind for Tua, why would a franchise offer that when they know Miami wants to move on?

So Tua's future in Miami is still murky, but now we know every option is on the table. And by announcing that, the Dolphins might have just lost any potential leverage they could have had in negotiations.
