This is a huge year for Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who is facing intense pressure to win games. McDaniel enters the season on the hot seat; following trades and several injuries, the outlook isn’t looking good for the Miami coach.
“All of those now put a tremendous amount of pressure on McDaniel, who is coming off his first under .500 season with the Dolphins, who were also on the outside looking in on the playoffs. We already listed McDaniel as a head coach with one of the hottest seats in the NFL entering 2025, and the road to save his job just got even more difficult,” CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan wrote.
Injuries to the cornerback room are deteriorating Miami’s depth during training camp. However, the issues began earlier when the Dolphins traded Jalen Ramsey due to a broken relationship.
“The broken relationship between Jalen Ramsey and McDaniel is why he’s on the trade block,” said an anonymous scout. “No one has been able to explain what happened, but I was told this actually has nothing to do with money. It’s a vote of no confidence in McDaniel. If the Ramsey trade goes down, this is a huge talent drain in the secondary.”
After so many injuries, the Dolphins signed veteran cornerbacks Mike Hilton and Jack Jones. The veterans will add some depth, but it is unknown how much of an impact they will have on the season. The Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly believes one cornerback may already be out of the picture.
“Cam Smith is not practicing today. He’s been wearing a compression sleeve for the last couple of days and I’m sure it’s gotten worse. At this point the Dolphins have moved on. Just being honest,” Kelly wrote.

Smith is a former second-round pick who has yet to live up to expectations. The Dolphins are doing whatever it takes to salvage a season that hasn’t even started. Smith is young and could find a spot on another roster, but his time in Miami appears to be fading.
