Dodgers urged to avoid reunion with World Series hero

The Los Angeles Dodgers are dealing with injuries in their starting rotation. They were linked to a trade for one of their former stars, but it may not be the best decision.

ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel tabbed the Dodgers as a fit for Walker Buehler of the Boston Red Sox. Buehler was a Dodger for his entire career before he signed with the Red Sox last winter. However, he was not the same pitcher who was named a two-time All-Star and received Cy Young Award votes toward the end of his time with the Dodgers.

Buehler had a 5.38 ERA last season with the Dodgers. He has a 6.29 ERA in 13 starts this year. FanSided's Scott Rogust urged the Dodgers to avoid a reunion with Buehler.

"After a bad first outing for the Red Sox on March 29, Buehler settled in, and won four of his next five starts," wrote Rogust. "However, Buehler ended up on the injured list with a shoulder issue. Since then, Buehler has struggled, accumulating an 8.17 ERA, a 2-4 win-loss record, and 24 strikeouts to 13 walks in 25.1 innings."

"Yes, the Dodgers do need starting pitching, considering Tyler Glasnow, Snell, and Sasaki are all on the injured list," Rogust continued. "But they should consider looking elsewhere, and not a reunion with Buehler. After all, the Red Sox don't seem to be a team interested in selling at the trade deadline. Plus, Passan and McDaniel give Buehler a 35-percent chance of getting dealt. Either way, the Dodgers should look elsewhere."

Buehler was a key player for the Dodgers in the postseason. Outside of a six-run inning in Game 3 of the National League Division Series, he was unscored upon in the postseason. He threw five shutout innings against the Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series. He came back on one day of rest and got the World Series clinching save.

Buehler suffered an arm injury in the summer of 2022. After that, he underwent Tommy John surgery but has never been the same. From 2017-2021, he was 40-13 with a 2.90 ERA in 103 games. He is no longer the same player, and it would make sense for the Dodgers to steer clear.
