The Los Angeles Dodgers are still alive in the MLB playoffs, as the World Series is set to get underway in just under a week.
The Dodgers have played one game less than the minimum in these playoffs, and it has been revealed that their starting rotation is likely the best in baseball. That means they can afford to move off a starter in the trade market this offseason, and potentially add some outfield or bullpen help headed into the 2026 season.
Recently, a highly productive Dodgers starter has been rumored in a trade with the Detroit Tigers.
Dodgers' Emmett Sheehan linked to Detroit Tigers as 'prime trade target'
The Detroit Tigers could desperately use some depth starters, as it was proven in the ALDS against the Seattle Mariners that they were too thing in the starting rotation.
In a recent trade predictions piece by Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller, Emmett Sheehan is named as a 'prime target' for the Detroit Tigers to trade for:
"Detroit Tigers: A Trade for a Starting Pitcher
Prime Target: Los Angeles' Emmet Sheehan (pre-arbitration in 2026; Arbitration-Eligible 2027-29)"
2026 could potentially be Tarik Skubal's last season with the Detroit Tigers, and if that's the case, Detroit's front office must go all-in this offseason to get him help.
The Dodgers' Emmett Sheehan is the perfect option because Los Angeles has a surplus of starters. Sheehan was also a highly productive starter for the Dodgers during the regular season.
In 73.1 innings and 12 starts, Sheehan posted a 2.82 ERA and 89 strikeouts.
Sheehan was not used at all in the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers, likely because he wasn't needed, but the World Series might be a good chance for the rest of the baseball world to see what he can bring to a franchise like the Tigers that could use some padding in their starting rotation.
