Dodgers' Max Muncy, Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas injury updates are scary after collision

The violence of the collision felt more fit for a football gridiron than a baseball diamond.

Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Max Muncy pulled a grounder down the line to Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Ildemaro Vargas.

They reached the bag at the same time on Thursday night and collided, hard.

Both went down to the ground, and both had to exit the game.

Muncy had a cut on his nose and potentially had hurt his right wrist.

Vargas mostly limped away without other obvious outward ailments.

It's a moment that neither team would want to see, with both these players crucial to their respective lineups.

Muncy is an experienced winner and power hitter, while Vargas is a career utility infielder who has broken out this season.

Vargas often plays up the middle, so he may not be totally used to a play like this at first base. Really, though, it appears everyone just got the timing a little different than they were expecting.

Muncy isn't necessarily known for his speed, but he put on the afterburners here and actually got himself called safe before the players ran into each other.

The NL West rivals will be hoping everyone is OK after that, because it certainly looked like it hurt.
