According to recent reports, the Cleveland Guardians don't have much interest in trading Cade Smith or Emmanuel Clase.
From the front office's perspective, it makes sense not to move either arm. Smith and Clase are arguably the best bullpen duo in Major League Baseball. While Cleveland hasn't played the type of baseball it was looking to play entering the season, there's a good chance the Guardians will be in a decent position next season if things go as planned.
On the flip side of that, it's only fair to wonder what type of package both players could get in return.
Smith and Clase would be better suited on a contending team, with the Los Angeles Dodgers being a possibility. The Dodgers' farm system is decent, but overrated considering their current roster.
Clase has been better, but Smith would be wanted.
If the Guardians could walk away with a few Major League-ready players, both sides could figure out a deal.

When searching for potential Dodgers targets, Just Baseball recently linked the two sides.
“He broke last year with a 1.91 ERA, .90 WHIP, and 103 strikeouts in 75 innings and has followed up this season with 61 strikeouts in 41 innings and a 3.07 ERA, despite the Guardians’ struggles around him.
“With an xERA of 2.54, an elite strikeout rate and stuff that avoid barrels, Smith could be a shrewd move for a team needing consistent middle-to-late inning help,” they wrote.
During the 2025 campaign, Smith was among some of the top arms in baseball.
He's struggled a bit this year by his standards, but his stuff is so electric that he should be fine once he figures some things out again.
