The Los Angeles Dodgers will likely stop at nothing to win back-to-back World Series titles.
We saw the Dodgers assert themselves as one of, if not the most aggressive team in the offseason even after a record spending spree the year before. They added three 2024 All-Stars to their roster, which looks like the most stacked collection of talent in recent baseball history.
However, the Dodgers do have a former two-time All-Star in their lineup who isn't getting the job done. Third baseman Max Muncy, 34, has a .176 average and .585 OPS so far this season in 130 plate appearances.
With Muncy struggling to get off the ground just a year after being limited to 73 games because of injury, one baseball analyst believes they could get creative to find themselves an alternative.
In a recent YouTube video, Jim Riley of BALLCAP Sports proposed a hypothetical trade that would bring Baltimore Orioles third base prospect Coby Mayo and aging starting pitcher Charlie Morton to the Dodgers in exchange for starting pitcher Tony Gonsolin and top outfield prospect Josue De Paula.
"The Dodgers have been dealing with a struggling Max Muncy," Riley said. "They're calling up Kim. Maybe he'll be the answer, maybe he won't. So we'll see what happens in LA."

"We have to include a piece to the Dodgers that brings the value down. With that in mind, we send Charlie Morton's contract to the Dodgers as well to get the Orioles out from the remainder of that salary."
Mayo, 23, is 4-for-49 (.082) in his big-league career so far, but the real concern is that the Orioles don't have a spot for him. Meanwhile, Baltimore has the worst starting rotation of any team with playoff aspirations, so Gonsolin would be a fit for them if he stays healthy.
Give Riley points for intrigue, because this would be the most fascinating trade of the Major League Baseball season if it went down. However, replacing a veteran as established as Muncy with an unproven prospect is a wildly risky proposition, and should only be considered if Muncy doesn't show any improvement by July.
