Dodgers have simple three-word answer to trade deadline question

The Los Angeles Dodgers are still the World Series favorites this season, despite how good the Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves have looked this season.

With the August 3 trade deadline steadily approaching, the Dodgers are a team to watch as they are every year, as this club tends to spend big when needed. Will they go after Tarik Skubal? What about Byron Buxton or Luis Arraez?

Well, according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Dodgers revealed a simple three-word answer to the question of what their trade deadline needs are. This need is simply: "just get healthy."

Dodgers' trade deadline need is health for their roster

"When I reached out to the Dodgers, they responded, 'just get healthy,' and I'm actually in agreement," Bowden writes. "They really have no obvious needs."

Looking across the entire Dodgers roster, it's understandable why the Dodgers believe their trade deadline need is simply to get healthy.

Will Smith is banged up right now, as is Enrique Hernandez. Teoscar Hernandez is injured as well, making three key offensive pieces all on the injured list.

But the pitching staff is a lot worse. While Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki, Justin Wrobleski, Emmet Sheehan, and Eric Lauer are healthy and form a good rotation, the Dodgers are down four starters right now.

Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell are two huge names that are currently on the injured list and missing a lot of time this season. Landon Knack and Gavin Stone are also both on the IL with Glasnow and Snell.

Edwin Diaz, the expensive closer they signed with the hope of replacing Tanner Scott, is also on the IL. Add in Evan Phillips, Brock Stewart, Bobby Miller, Jake Cousins, Bursdar Graterol, and Ben Casparious, and it's an injury-riddled pitching bullpen as well.

Fortunately, they've built a juggernaut, so they've been able to weather the storm through all of these injuries.

So, while they could trade for players at the deadline, their real trade deadline need is simply to get healthy, and get their stars back in the lineup, in the rotation, and into the bullpen.
