Dodgers' Freddie Freeman hugged the Diamondbacks infielder who tagged him out

Have you ever seen a runner hug a fielder who was tagging him out?

Well, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman made sure you have with his actions on Saturday night.

A groundball to Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte, with two outs and Freeman on first, had Marte fielding the baseball in the basepath before Freeman got there.

Freeman instinctively stopped, so as to at least make Marte throw the ball somewhere, increasing the tiny odds of a mistake ever so slightly.

Marte just stood there, though, and waited for Freeman. The tag out would end the inning.

Freeman, knowing he had no way out, simply strolled up to Marte and gave him a hug.

Technically, Marte's glove touched Freeman as they wrapped their arms around one another, so the hug was actually the out, too.

That post on X sums it up. Baseball can be quite fun.

It ended up being more fun for the Dodgers on Saturday night. Will Smith, on his birthday and bobblehead night, hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning.

The tone was set by some friendly action between Freeman and Marte, though. They know they're lucky to play a game for a living, and it shows.
