Dodgers could part ways with beloved infielder if they sign Willy Adames

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series in 2024 but have a glaring need in the middle of their infield. A free agent addition could mean they part ways with a fan favorite.

While listing each team's most likely player to be traded, Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly noted that Gavin Lux could be the Dodgers player dealt if the team adds a premier infielder like Willy Adames or Ha-Seong Kim.

"With Mookie Betts coming back to the infield and the possibility of signing Ha-Seong Kim or Willy Adames, it seems like it might be time for a change of scenery with Lux," wrote Kelly.

Lux spent 2024 primarily playing second base for the Dodgers. However, the Dodgers have revealed they plan to move Mookie Betts back to the infield, presumably second base. The Dodgers have been linked to Adames to fill the hole at shortstop. Adames would be the everyday shortstop if he signs. If the Dodgers have Betts at second base with Adames at shortstop, Lux may not have a role in 2025.

"It wouldn't be that difficult to talk yourself into buying low on Lux—if the price is indeed low. The former top prospect is still only 26 years old and should continue to regain some explosiveness as he moves further away from the right ACL tear that he sustained in February 2023," wrote Kelly.

Lux has spent his entire big league career with the Dodgers and has a .252 career batting average. Lux will not be a free agent until 2027. He may not demand a haul in a trade but could yield a decent prospect for the Dodgers.
