Dodgers' Alex Vesia World Series status in jeopardy after 'deep personal matter'

The Fall Classic is just over 24 hours away, and both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays will have to submit their rosters before the game's first pitch at 8:08 p.m. EST.

However, the Dodgers may be without high-leverage reliever against lefties, Alex Vesia, as he is dealing with something bigger than baseball.

Dodgers' Alex Vesia is away from the team due to a personal matter

The status of Dodgers' reliever Alex Vesia is unclear at the moment after the team announced he is dealing with what the Dodgers say is "a deeply personal matter".

Here is the team's official announcement posted to social media.

"It's with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter. The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date."

Manager Dave Roberts said they are "going day-to-day" with it.

This is a situation that clearly has a heavy magnitude, so it is right that everyone respects the privacy of the Vesia family at this moment.

Vesia has been one of the Dodgers' better relievers in the past few seasons. The southpaw made 68 appearances and posted a 3.08 ERA this season. He struck out 80 batters in 59.2 innings.

Blake Snell will face Trey Yasavage in game one of the World Series on Friday, and it will be announced tomorrow what the official status of Alex Vesia is.
