Dodgers' Alex Vesia proves go-to status with dominant outing

1 hour ago 3

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts called Alex Vesia to pitch the sixth inning, with the Miami Marlins coming off a three-run inning. Vesia had previously allowed two runs in the loss against the Chicago Cubs when asked to come out in a similar situation.

However, this time, the lefty punched out three without leaking anything.

Vesia stopped the Marlins' momentum by first recording a swinging strikeout against Owen Caisse before catching Javier Sanoja looking on an 82 mph slider near the heart of the plate. He allowed a six-pitch walk to Connor Norby, but let's be clear, the pitch was crashing the top left half of the plate and should have been called a strike. Doesn't matter, as Vesia made a fool of Jakobe Marsee with a four-pitch strikeout as the Marlins hitter tried swinging for the fences.

What a bounce back for Alex Vesia.

He got three strikeouts, allowing just one base runner via a walk.

Like he has done many times this season, Alex Vesia stood tall on Roberts' expectations, proving himself a worthy go-to guy with a dominant outing.

Alex Vesia continues with dominant season

After missing the World Series due to the unfortunate death of his daughter, Alex Vesia has returned in style. Friday's game against the Cubs was the first time this season that he gave up a run. In all other 11 appearances, he has been simply dominant.

The lefty has saved two games and has struck out 11 against just four walks in 9.1 innings. He continues to be the bullpen guy Dave Roberts turns to when the Dodgers are in tough situation.
