The biggest offseason move of 2024 for the Las Vegas Raiders was the signing of defensive lineman Christian Wilkins.
After starring with the Miami Dolphins, Wilkins netted himself a massive four-year, $110 million deal with the Raiders that amounts to $27.5 million annually, which former general manager Tom Telesco was responsible for.
The Raiders were in desperate need of an upgrade along the interior, but there were no shortage of doubts about the deal at the time.
And those doubts haven't gone away. NFL Spin Zone's Lou Scataglia named the Wilkins contract the worst the Raiders have on the books this year.
Christian Wilkins played in just five games for the Raiders in the 2025 NFL Season due to a foot injury, and he is already set to turn 30 years old during the season. Wilkins was yet another example of former GM Tom Telesco going big-fish hunting in free agency, only to overpay for a player and neglect the overall roster depth.
Wilkins is a good player, but he's not great and is clearly not worth almost $30 million per year. That's just an insane pricetag, but he was one of those free agents that was likely going to get overpaid no matter where he signed, as teams do this every single year.
Hard not to agree with Scataglia here, at least early on in Wilkins' tenure.
Wilkins suffered a Jones fracture in his first season with the Raiders, limiting him to just five games.
In those five games, Wilkins tallied two sacks and nine pressures while posting PFF grades of 66.9 and 80.2 in the pass rush and in run defense, respectively. Not bad numbers, but not numbers worthy of a $110 million contract.
Looking ahead to 2025, there is still concern over Wilkins' foot. He returned to a boot during the offseason after shedding it late last season. He is now back out of the boot, but didn't practice at all during OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
Again, there is still time for Wilkins to turn this situation around, but things don't look good and there's no denying that Wilkins is teetering on the brink of being a massive free-agent bust in Las Vegas.
