Dever Broncos drop in weekly power rankings despite win in Week 6

The Denver Broncos earned no style points for beating the New York Jets 13-11 this past Sunday in London, but they improved their record to 4-2 on the season.

The Broncos got an ugly win over the winless Jets across the pond in a game in which the Jets posted -10 net passing yards. No, that is not a typo. The Broncos also won on the strength of nine quarterback sacks, though a lackluster offense was all most fans inside Broncos Country wanted to talk about.

When it comes to the power rankings, you have to be aesthetically pleasing in addition to victorius in order to impress those doing the judging. The Broncos did not do that in Week 6 and Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News docked them for it, dropping the Broncos down from No. 14 last week to No. 15 this week.

"The Broncos had some unexpected return to offensive struggles with Bo Nix as they were a little jetlagged in London. But Nik Bonitto and the loaded pass defense dominated again to make that a moot point", wrote Iyer.

Broncos fans should be happy with the victory as those are not easy to come by in the NFL. Some slack should be given to a team that emptied its gas tank to come from behind and beat the Philadelphia Eagles a week earlier before making the long trip to London. While the offense was sluggish, the defense was sound.

The Broncos have yet to put together a game in which they are clicking on both sides of the ball but when they do, they will be one of the most complete teams in the league. Power rankings aside, the Broncos are 4-2 in a tough AFC and would be a playoff team if the season ended today.

The offense will be better (it can't get a whole lot worse) but the focus should be on the fact that this team is finding ways to win games and that is going to make it stronger as the seasson goes on.
