The New York Knicks made their first trade ahead of the deadline Wednesday night, shipping forward Guerschon Yabusele to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Dalen Terry, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
Despite the late-night deal, there's still a lot of time for trades to be made ahead of the 3pm deadline on Thursday afternoon.
Knicks insider Ian Begley reported that New York is still eyeing up a few players, and another move could be in the works as the Knicks continue to add to their championship-hopeful roster.
Ian Begley reports the Knicks are eyeing up Pelicans players
"With trade deadline roughly 16 hours away, NOP’s Jose Alvarado remains trade target for Knicks. Yves Missi, another player they have had interest in, has drawn strong interest from Pacers & other teams. It may require significant draft capital to get New Orleans to move Missi," wrote Begley in a post on X.
New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado has been a rumored target of the Knicks dating back a few months, and Yves Missi has also been a name circulating in trade rumors.
The addition of Alvarado, while interesting, doesn't make a lot of sense unless New York knows Deuce McBride's ankle injury is a bit more serious than initially thought. He missed his fourth straight game against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.
New York's back court is already fairly bloated, with Tyler Kolek, Jordan Clarkson, and Kevin McCullar Jr. competing for minutes.
Trading for Missi makes a bit more sense. Outside of Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson, the only other center depth New York has is second-year player Ariel Hukporti. He's shown flashes, but if one of the Knicks' other centers goes down with injury, I'm not sure they could rely on him in a playoff setting.
We'll see how Knicks president Leon Rose handles the remaining hours until the trade deadline passes.
