DeSean Jackson savors emotional win over Michael Vick as Delaware State improves to 6–3

For DeSean Jackson, Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field was more than a football game. It was a homecoming filled with emotion and meaning.

Coaching on the same turf where he built his NFL legacy, Jackson led Delaware State to a 27 to 20 victory over Norfolk State. The win lifted the Hornets to 6-3, their best record in 13 years.

“Man, it feels awesome,” Jackson said in his postgame press conference. “Walking out there, smelling that grass, it went through my veins. It felt like I was about to play again.”

The night carried a special connection. Across the sideline stood Michael Vick, Jackson’s former Eagles teammate and close friend, now the head coach at Norfolk State. When the final whistle sounded, the two met at midfield in a moment that symbolized brotherhood and shared history.

“I truly look up to him,” Jackson said. “We are in a position now where we are inspiring and changing young men’s lives at HBCUs. It does not get any better than that.”

Delaware State controlled the game from start to finish, using balance and energy to hold off a late rally. The performance came despite a short week and a long road trip that limited practice time. “I did not feel we had the best week of practice,” Jackson admitted. “But the energy tonight showed how much this meant.”

The Hornets’ progress under Jackson is real, but his message stays grounded. “It is an honor, but we still have not done anything yet,” he said. “Our goal is to go undefeated in conference and reach our destination.”

When asked where this night ranks in his football life, Jackson smiled. “It is pretty high,” he said. “All those years of experience, I would be selfish not to pour it back into these young men.”
