Derrick Harmon has heartbreaking hospital visit to make after being drafted by Steelers

On what is no doubt one of the best nights of his entire life, new Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Derrick Harmon will be visiting his mom in the hospital after being taken with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Sadly, Harmon's mom, Tiffany Saine, was paralyzed on the left side of her body after a stroke she suffered back in 2022 when Harmon was a freshman at Oregon. What's even sadder, she's currently on life support.

"“I’m doing everything for my mom because she did everything for me growing up," Harmon said while at Michigan State, where he played before transferring to Oregon. "The fight that she had, I try to take that fight with me when I go on the field.”

"Even on the sick days, to be able to get up, feed your son, go to work, make sure the household cool, then come back home, take her son to practice, do all those things,” Harmon added.

On Thursday night, Harmon met with the media and revealed that his first stop after being drafted would be the hospital, where he's going to share the news with his mother that he was selected by the Steelers in the first round.

Derrick Harmon said his mother is on life support in the hospital and is heading over there now to tell her that her son got drafted by the Steelers.

Harmon also revealed that his mom has had multiple brain surgeries throughout her life, and she's his inspiration.

Just hearing his thoughts on his mom, it's pretty clear that the Steelers got themselves a high-character player who is no stranger to adversity. And, oh year, he's a heck of a football player, also.
