Deontay Wilder is back in action as the former world champion faces Tyrrell Herndon on June 27. The fight in Kansas airs on Fubo in the U.S.
A former WBC heavyweight champion from 2015-2020, Wilder (43-4-1) was one of the most feared fighters in the heavyweight division at one point. "The Bronze Bomber," a former WBC heavyweight champion, has 42 wins via knockout. However, he has gone 1-4 since 2020.
Wilder, 39, got a taste of his own medicine in his last fight against Zhilei Zhang. He returns after a year and under the guidance of a new trainer. The hope is a win brings the last great American heavyweight back to relevance in a crowded division.
"This is the return of Deontay Wilder—mentally, physically, and emotionally," Wilder told Forbes. "I'm taking back my throne. And at the end of the day, man, America needs me. They're putting my logo out every night, waving it. We need our hero back. And I'm gonna answer the call, baby."
The 37-year-old Herndon (24-5) is on a three-fight win streak and has 15 wins via knockout. It's his first fight against a former world champion, having previously faced rising stars Efe Ajagba and Richard Torrez Jr.
