Dems’ dangerous anti-war stance: Letters to the Editor — April 21, 2026

The Issue: Democrats’ opposition to Operation Epic Fury despite Iran’s intentions to develop nuclear bombs.

These are unusual times. Even though Iran has enough nuclear material for 11 atomic bombs, most Americans have opposed the war from the start (“Dems vs. US,” Julian Epstein, PostOpinion, April 18).

It seems that misinformation from the media and Democrats has played a big role. Still, it’s surprising that people aren’t more concerned about the risk of Iran attacking our cities. It’s not science fiction; it’s a real possibility.

Usually, when a species is in danger, it will try to protect itself. However, there is strong evidence that people can be influenced to think differently when exposed to enough propaganda and lies.

Why are Americans and other Western nations that believe in freedom and democracy so opposed to Trump’s attempt to prevent a nuclear holocaust? Are we supposed to wait for another Pearl Harbor and have millions dead?

Our president and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth are doing what’s best for the American people.

Iranians hate their rulers and are being slaughtered by the thousands for protesting against them. Let us be their heroes.

Democrats believe Trump is a more proximate threat to America than the Islamic thugs hellbent on getting atomic bombs and delivery systems to convert the Big Apple into applesauce.

Democrats live in a marsupial pouch, hidden from the real world and nourished by Trump Derangement Syndrome-rich milk. They are nuts.

Like an open fire hydrant, the Jacobin Democrats and their obsequious minions in the fake news media continue to gush with unbridled hypocrisy. When Trump attacks Iran, they scream stop. When he agrees to a cease-fire, they scream louder.

Their hatred of Trump is their raison d’être. To describe the plight of today’s Democrats and their “leadership” as a repugnant disgrace would be an extreme understatement.

It’s sad to see that the left would rather destroy Trump than the Iranian regime. Where were they when Barack Obama and Joe Biden released billions in frozen assets to Iran, which it used to develop lethal weapons?

The question remains: What would the left do? Liberals never have a plan — only a hatred for Trump, whose main objective is to protect the American people.

The Issue: The need to provide treatment to mentally ill people before they commit violent crimes.

I’ve been a psychiatric RN for over 50 years. It is almost impossible to get psychiatric treatment without committing a crime — many times a heinous one (“Psych ward madness,” Stephen Eide, April 20).

We must make it easier to gain civil commitment based on inability to care for one’s self. We need to listen to families who ask to get help for a family member, but are denied.

The billions spent on detaining folks who might be undocumented would be better spent treating the mentally ill who can pose a real danger to our society.

Revisiting the topic of treating the mentally insane is as stale as a moldy piece of bread.

Outpatient treatment is scarce and for the most severely incapacitated, and inpatient beds are limited. The concept of institutionalization and compassionate care is essentially nonexistent.

Unless we make this investment, we will be left with mentally deranged individuals roaming our streets.
